'ello and welcome,

Below you can read the original text, research and queries that went into trying to find a way to get AD to run on OS 9.04 and above. As the wonderful Daxeria has fixed the AD control panel so that it can now be used on OS 9.2.2 and below, rather than deleting it all, I thought I may keep it here...

First thing you should know: After Dark, Totally Twisted, The Simpsons, Deluxe, Classic, Midnight Collection and After Dark Games(the SS) will NOT work on any version of Mac OS past 9.0(click here for that wonderful story, as well for some After Dark alternatives). Yes, as truly sad as it is, we're screwed. It will install, and during boot up the extension will be messed up(a blotch of colors basically), then it will freeze your system if you enter the AD Control Panel.

Now, as Sierra has fucked us Mac owners out of Half-Life and Pharaoh(months before being finished I might add) you might hold little hope as to ever getting AD to ever work again. There are two bits of hope left(though they don't shine too brightly for us OS 9.X users):

1. A company called Ibrium HB has released an app called MacDim(if you don't have it, I HIGHLY recommend you get a copy of this wonderful freeware) that can run AD 2.0 and lower modules. Now, granted, that doesn't help us with Totally Twisted or AD 4.0 but when the copyright on AD runs out, AD 4.0 modules may be possible.

2. A company called Infinisys has released an app called After Dark X which will run some AD 4.0 modules in OSX. Now, I know this is even less hope than MacDim as OSX is a joke and we old schoolers would rather not mess with it. BUT, an employee of Ininisys has told me that they DO have a version of ADX that runs in OS 9!!! Yay...but it's only available for Japanese Mac systems and they have no plans to bring it over to America...

If you are a programmer and would like to help create a hack to make AD work on OS 9.1(and above), please read this. Get SMAD!

It's my little campaign to get AD working on Mac OS 9.1(and above).

Below is a request I posted to alt.hackintosh, please read over it:

'ello all,

Ok, I hate to post something like this as some people are going to nut-out because I'm requesting a hack and all. The thing is, I am having a hard time figuring out how ANYONE could consider this hack immoral/illegal/etc.

As you may or may not know, After Dark will not work on anything past OS 9.0.
(click here for that wonderful story). This is due to the fact that the fucks a Sierra do not like the Mac(you might have noticed this when both Pharaoh and Half-Life were canceled months before completion for the Mac), and will not produce a patch. Now, there are two reasons I believe this patch is indeed possible:

1. At www.ibrium.se there is a module that will allow Mac Dim(a great little screensaver) to use AD 2.0(and lower) modules. Now, the author has said that he cannot make it use AD 4.0 modules as they are still under copyright...but that leads me to believe they can indeed run, with modification to Mac Dim's AD module.

2. A company called Infinisys(http://en.infinisys.co.jp/) has released an app known as "After Dark X". Now, from what I have heard it is terrible, but upon talking to one of the employees, I was told that they DO have a patch for After Dark to work in OS 9.2.2. Problem is, it's only for Japanese Macs, and they have no intention of bringing it over.
(the above are just examples of other people getting it to work, I am not saying we should modify the code of their proprietary work. I just think a patch could be possible as the two above developers have made it work in their own ways).

So, since Sierra would rather suck Microsoft's dick, are there any programmers out there that would be willing to take this project on? As a fan of AD, as well as AD Twisted, The Simpsons, Star Trek and all of their wonderful modules it about killed me when I updated to OS 9.1(and beyond) to find that AD simply wouldn't work anymore. The extension shows up during start up, but really messed up(a blotch of colors basically). When you go into the AD control panel the Mac will usually freeze....that's about all the info I have on it(sorry I, myself, am not that technically inclined).

Anyone willing to help or volunteer their services, if you need any AD info please email me and I would be willing to do what it takes to get this off the ground.

Thanks,

Bel

As stated above, I am willing to help out in any way I can to get this going. If you are interested, please email me. Thanks.
